A number of luxury brands helped bring massive innovations and a further shift in the industry this past year. As a luxury transportation company with partnerships from San Francisco to NYC, we’ve been observing how rapidly consumer tastes are changing, and how holding their interest — and most importantly, building a genuine connection with them — requires creativity and finesse more than ever.
Let’s take a look at three of 2016’s leading luxury branding efforts.
- Bloomingdale’s – In 2016, Bloomingdale’s started allowing consumers to express themselves through the use of custom emojis. By forming a partnership with DabApps, the department store developed an app called Bloomoticons so that users could create messages using graphics that reflected the store’s voice, including many of their fashion items, and phrases like “chic” and “xoxo.” Shoppers could then share them on social media or in a message, spreading the brand’s message organically.
- de Grisogono – Swiss jeweler de Grisogono used their branding efforts in 2016 to connect with their audience in a more intimate way. Through sharing a social travel journal with their followers, de Grisogono transported people to the snowy locale of Gstaad in the Bernese Alps. Followers could read chapters about the Gstaad Palace as well as view videos and pictures.
- Rolls-Royce Motor Cars – British automaker Rolls-Royce Motor Cars decided to give itself a significant makeover in 2016 to show its edgier side and attract younger consumers. “Black Badge” is a darker, more powerful and more confident Rolls-Royce that will target goal-oriented and self-made young affluents. This change in tune is being implemented in response to a shift in their consumer base and habits.
